Event Description

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is the first citizen and chosen representative of the city, acting as a focal point for the community as well as promoting the city, forging national and international links.

The role of the Lord Mayor includes:

  • Representing the city at civic functions and engagements.
  • Promoting the city nationally and internationally.
  • Supporting local charities and community groups.
  • Attending religious events of all denominations.
  • Meeting delegates from twinned cities
  • Chairing council meetings.
  • Conferring Honorary Freemen and Associations.

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is always a serving Councillor, elected by the full council at its Annual General Meeting held each May, and stands for one year in office.

The current Lord Mayor, for 2019-2020, is Councillor Anna Rothery.

Each year the Lord Mayor of Liverpool raises money to be distributed to local charities or charities with a Liverpool connection.  Liverpool's Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal has helped raise over £1 million for local good causes in recent years.

The Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal 2019-2020 is raising funds for The Anthony Walker Foundation, Amadudu Women’s Refuge, Liverpool City Region Pride Foundation and Merseyside Somali Association.
