The Challenge
On 6th July approximately 80 people – pupils, friends and staff of Vyners School are participating in the Langdale 10 challenge.
In a target time of 12 hours we will be attempting to climb 10 peaks in the Lake District National Park. The highest summit being Bow Fell at 3,000 feet with the others each being over 2,000 feet – covering a 15 mile route, with a total ascent of 5,400 feet.
To ensure the challenge is all inclusive some of the participants will be tailoring the route to match their ability, whilst still ensuring that they are challenged, both physically and mentally. For some this might mean a reduction in the number of peaks and others will be completing an 11 mile valley walk.
The Training
In order to prepare we are undertaking a 12 week training programme. Starting with a local walk of 7 miles along the Celandine Route, building up to a 10 mile hike at Pen-y-fan in the Brecon Beacons.
The Why?
The funds raised will be shared between Vyners School and the charity, MIND.
Everybody taking part is a member of Vyners School. With the current expansion of the School and the reduction of Government funding it is becoming increasingly important to find funds for additional educational equipment. With that in mind, the object of the event is to finance the replacement of existing outdated Chromebooks.
MIND has been chosen as a second charity. Mental health affects one in four people, especially adolescents and therefore relevant to the whole community.
Everyone involved is making a big commitment to this challenge please show your support by giving generously.
